Students from Kosovo Visit HLC

Students from Kosovo, who attend the Young Leaders School organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights from Priština/Prishtinë visited the Humanitarian Law Center on April 17th, 2012. They talked to Marijana Toma, who manages the Transitional Justice Education programme, and Dušan Jovanović, a member of the HLC team working on the identification of perpetrators of war crimes.

They presented the HLC projects – Kosovo Memory Book, Monitoring of War Crimes Trials and Representing Victims Before Courts, Education, and RECOM Initiative. The students were particularly interested in the research method utilized by the HLC in the research of war crimes, and which is the comparative analysis of documents from two data bases: 1) the HLC’s data base, which among others, contains several thousands of statements given by witnesses of war crimes, and 2) ICTY public judicial data base, which contains evidence presented in trials conducted before this court, first of all military and police documents dating from the period of the armed conflicts.
