First Sentences for Perjury in War Crimes Trials Rendered in Kosovo

On September 16, 2010 the Municipal Court in Peć/Pejë convicted Bekim, Engjell, and Prenk Luli of acts of perjury and sentenced them to suspended jail sentences of five months. In a separate trial, the court convicted Gjerg Luli and Kole Krasniqi of the same crimes. Kole Krasniqi is the only one whose jail sentence was not suspended and must be serevd.

#IzSudnice - Sajt  - 4On August 23, 2010 the Humanitarian Law Center filed with the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor of the Republic of Serbia a criminal complaint against an unidentified number of members of the former Yugoslav Army (VJ), members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia (MUP Serbia), and members of criminal groups operating under the control of VJ and MUP Serbia for their responsibility for for war crimes committed against Albanians in the villages of Plavljane/Pavlan, Zahać/Zahaq, and other surrounding villages and settlements in the Peć/Pejë municipality during 1998 and 1999.

#IzSudnice - Sajt  - 4On May 28, 2010 Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) filed a compensation lawsuit with the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor of the Republic of Serbia against 34 individuals on charges of their personal responsibility for the murder of 90 and the wounding of over 150 Albanian prisoners in the KPZ Dubrava penitentiary, near Istok in Kosovo (hereinafter referred to as: KPZ Dubrava).

Bedri Krasniqi Convicted to 27 Years in Prison for Murder of Kosovo Police Officers

A mixed trial chamber of the Kosovo Supreme Court, presided by international judge Gerrit-Marc Sprenger, confirmed on January 1st 2010 the first instance judgement rendered by the Peć/Pejë District Court and sentenced Bedri Krasniqi to 27 years of imprisonment for the murder of two and attempted murder of one member of the Kosovo Police Service.

Trbojevic verdict confirms murder of five prisoners

On December 4th 2009, the Serbian Supreme Court confirmed the verdict of the War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade District Court, which had found the accused Boro Trbojevic guilty of war crimes against the civilian population and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment. The Supreme Court dismissed as unfounded the appeal of the war crimes prosecutor and the defence of the accused Trbojevic. In its reasoning the Supreme Court stated that the first-instance verdict does not contain the essential violation of the provisions of criminal procedure or criminal law that the second instance court considers ex officio.
