Students from New York Visit Humanitarian Law Center

A group of students from The New School for Public Engagement from New York visited the Humanitarian Law Center. The students will stay in the region for two months during which they will do internships in non-governmental organizations and state institutions in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Albania. Sandra Orlović, the HLC Deputy Executive Director, Dušan Jovanović, a member of the HLC team working on the identification of perpetrators of war crimes, and Katarina Janković, who is in charge of the HLC Outreach activities, talked to the students.

EULEX Representatives Visit Humanitarian Law Center

A group of EULEX prosecutors and investigators for war crimes and organized crime visited the Humanitarian Law Center today. Nataša Kandić, the Executive Director of the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC), presented the work of the HLC in her opening address. The HLC also presented the Kosovo Memory Book, the Report on War Crimes Trials in Serbia in 2011, and Ljubiša Diković Dossier to the EULEX representatives. Upon the request of the EULEX representatives, the HLC handed them certain information relevant to the investigation of a case of war crime, and they also discussed future cooperation with regard to other cases.

Human rights violations committed in Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac from the period of the NATO bombing to the granting of an amnesty to former soldiers of the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac

According to HLC information[1], between January 1st, 1999 and May 21st, 2001 when an amnesty was granted to former soldiers of the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa, and Bujanovac (LAPMB), at least 40 citizens of Serbia and Montenegro died in the municipalities of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac. During the NATO bombing at least 11 ethnic Albanians were killed in these municipalities in circumstances that have not yet been clarified.
