Hearing of Witness Ismet Šehić in the Compensation Case against the Republic of Serbia for Torture Committed in Detention Camps Šljivovica and Mitrovo Polje

A main hearing in the compensation case against the Republic of Serbia filed by the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) on behalf of Omer Čavić and another eight plaintiffs, former prisoners in the Šljivovica (Čajetina municipality) and Mitrovo Polje (Aleksandrovac Municipality) detention camps was held on February 18, 2011 before a Trial Chamber of the First Basic Court in Belgrade.

Two Eye-Witnesses Testify as the Compensation Proceedings for the Residents of the Kukurovići Village Continues

Belgrade, February 9, 2011 – A new hearing was held before the High Court in Belgrade in the compensation proceedings for the former residents of the Kukurovići village near Priboj. The compensation lawsuit was filed by the Humanitarian Law Center in 2007 on behalf of 12 plaintiffs for the responsibility of the state for the destruction of their property during the attack of the members of the Užice Corps.

The Supreme Court of Cassation Upholds the Decision in the Dejan Petrović Compensation Lawsuit

BELGRADE – The Supreme Court of Cassation in Belgrade denied the request of the Republic of Serbia to revise a decision handed down by the District Court in Belgrade confirming the first instance decision of the First Municipal Court, which orders the Republic of Serbia to pay one million RSD in non-pecuniary damages each to Radmila and Dragomir Petrović from Belgrade for their emotional suffering caused by the death of their son, Dejan Petrović, who died on the premises of the Internal Affairs Department (OUP) of the Vračar municipality.

The Appellate Court in Belgrade Refuses to Properly Compensate the Children of Behram Gigollaj for the Murder of their Father

The Appellate Court in Belgrade refused the compensation request of Ryva, Gani, Nimetullah, Hakia, Lumnia, and Asman Gigollaj, wife and children of the late Behram Gigollaj, who was beaten to death by unidentified assailants on March 24, 1999 in Mataruška Banja.

First Municipal Court’s Decision: Republic of Serbia ordered to pay RSD 160.000 for torture of Bosniaks in Prijedor in 1993

The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) believes that the First Municipal Court’s Decision ordering Republic of Serbia (RS) to pay RSD 160.000 to Sead Rovčanin for torture suffered in 1993 is an insult and does not constitute proper satisfaction for the ordeal Rovčanin was subjected to.
