Students of the Regional School for Transitional Justice visited the Podijevo/Podujeve Peace Park (Kosovo) on November 28th, 2013, and talked with Saranda Bogujevci, one of the five children who survived the crime committed by members of the Serb Police in Podujevo in March 1999.

Certificates of attendance were awarded to the second generation students of the Regional School for Transitional Justice on Wednesday, November 27th, 2013. Dominic-Haydn Braithwaite, Regional Political Adviser and Conflict Adviser at the British Embassy in Belgrade, and Marijana Toma, the Education Programme Coordinator and Deputy Executive Director of the Humanitarian Law Center, presented the certificates to the students.

Report from Visit to Memorial Sites in Jasenovac, Prijedor and Vukovar

As part of the programme of the Regional School for Transitional Justice, the students of the School visited several places in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina where crimes were committed. The main purpose of these visits was to introduce the students to the memorialization processes in the former Yugoslavia and direct communication with survivors of these crimes.

Second Regional Transitional Justice School Started

Second Regional Transitional Justice School Started

The second Regional Transitional Justice School was opened today, November 19th, 2013, at the premises of the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC). The School, organized again this year by the HLC, the Association Pravnik from Sarajevo, and the Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo represents a ten-day education programme on instruments for dealing with the past. 25 students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia will attend the School this year.

Reparations for Wartime Victims in the Former Yugoslavia: In Search of the Way Forward

t1_IOM-OIM_svgThe core objective of International Organization for Migration’s Report is to facilitate discussions and political decision making about reparations for victims of international crimes (genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes) committed during the “Yugoslav wars,” as they are defined in and covered by the mandate of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). This Report is the outcome of a project initiated by a request from the Office of the President of the ICTY to develop a set of concrete recommendations or suggestions on this issue. To provide a starting point for discussions, this Report examines what a comprehensive reparations effort could look like and how it could be achieved given the current context.

Presentation of Dossier: “125th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army”

The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) presented the Dossier: “125th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army” on Friday, October 11th, 2013. This Dossier describes 10 crimes in which members of the 125th Motorized Brigade of the YA, under the command of Dragan Živanović, or subordinate units of the 125th Mtr.Br., participated, and in which 301 civilians were killed, including seven women and 19 children.

Presentation of the Dossier on “125th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army”

The Humanitarian Law Center will present its Dossier on “The 125th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army” (Dossier) on Friday, October 11th, 2013 at 13:30. The Dossier presents the operation of this Yugoslav Army unit during the war in Kosovo and the crimes committed in  this unit’s zone of responsibility, where 1,813 Kosovo Albanian civilians were killed, 216 of whom are still registered as missing. None of the perpetrators of these war crimes have been prosecuted to date.

Students from Kosovo Visit HLC

A group of law students from Kosovo visited the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) on Tuesday, September 24th, 2013. They came to Belgrade for the purpose of attending testimonies in the Ćuška/Qyshk trial before the Higher Court in Belgrade War Crimes Department.

SIT Students Visit HLC

Students of the School for International Training (SIT) visited the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) on Tuesday, September 24th, 2013. The students attend various universities in the US and they will stay in Serbia for 15 weeks during their SIT Peace and Conflict Studies.
