SO WE KNOW: Štrpci, February 27, 1993

18 years ago, on February 27, 1993, 19 civilians (18 Muslims and one Croat) were abducted from a train 671 going from Belgrade to Bar.

The Republic of Srpska Army, under the command of Milan lukić, killed Nijaz Ličina, Fehim Baki, Rifat Husović, sixteen-year-old Sead Dečević, Ismet Babačić, Halil Zupčević, Adem Alomerović, Rasim Ćorić, Fikret Memetović, Fevzi Zeković, Nijazim Kajević, Muhedin Hanić, Safet Preljević, Džafer Topuzović, Jusuf Rastoder, Zvezdan Zulčić, Tomo Buzov, and nineteen-year-old Esad Kapetanović.

Mortal remains, which were identified in a DNA analysis to belong to Halil Zupčević, were found on the bank of lake Perućac, in the village of Sjedača, located some 30 km from Srebrenica. Last summer, after the inspection of Lake Perućac, mortal remains of Rasim Ćorić from Prijepolje and Jusuf Rasoder from Berane were identified.
ICTY rendered a first instance judgment convicting Milan Lukić for crimes committed in Višegrad, but not for the crime committed in Štrpci.

Hearing of Witness Ismet Šehić in the Compensation Case against the Republic of Serbia for Torture Committed in Detention Camps Šljivovica and Mitrovo Polje

A main hearing in the compensation case against the Republic of Serbia filed by the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) on behalf of Omer Čavić and another eight plaintiffs, former prisoners in the Šljivovica (Čajetina municipality) and Mitrovo Polje (Aleksandrovac Municipality) detention camps was held on February 18, 2011 before a Trial Chamber of the First Basic Court in Belgrade.

SO WE KNOW: Kukurovići, Februar 18, 1993

On February 18, 1993 members of the Užice Corps of the Yugoslav Army (YA) committed an artillery attack on the Kukurovići village, located along the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, on which occasion three people were killed: Uzeir Bulutović, Mušan Husović, and Fatima Sarač. Fearing for their lives, remaining residents fled the village, leaving their property behind to be destroyed and torched down.

Two Eye-Witnesses Testify as the Compensation Proceedings for the Residents of the Kukurovići Village Continues

Belgrade, February 9, 2011 – A new hearing was held before the High Court in Belgrade in the compensation proceedings for the former residents of the Kukurovići village near Priboj. The compensation lawsuit was filed by the Humanitarian Law Center in 2007 on behalf of 12 plaintiffs for the responsibility of the state for the destruction of their property during the attack of the members of the Užice Corps.

A Guilty Verdict for Members of the Gnjilane Group Charged with War Crimes Committed against Serbs and other non-Albanians

The War Crimes Trial Chamber of the Belgrade High Court, presided by Justice Snežana Nikolić-Garotić rendered a guilty verdict on January 21, 2011 in the case of nine individuals charged with war crimes against civilian population in Gnjilan/Gjilan, Kosovo. The accused are sentenced as follows: Agush Memishi, Selimon Sadiku, and Samet Hajdari to 15 years in prison; Faton Hajdari, Ahmet Hasani, and Nazif Hasani to 10 years in prison;  Kamber Sahiti and Ferat Hajdari to 8 years in prison.

New Sentence for Radojko Repanović in the Suva Reka War Crime Case

On December 15, 2010, the War Crimes Trial Chamber of the High Court in Belgrade handed down a new sentence in the case of Radojko Repanović, sentencing him to 20 years in prison for the war crime against the civilian population in Suva Reka/Suharekë. The Trial Chamber accepted the the opinion and arguments stated by Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Mioljub Vitorović in his closing argument.

HLC Opinion: ICTY Appeals Chamber Grants Šljivančanin’s Request for Review of Judgment on the Basis of Biased Witness’ Testimony

The Humanitarian Law Center, who represented the families of those persons executed at Ovčara before the War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade District Court (hereinafter the War Crimes Chamber), believes that the ICTY Appeals Chamber gave undo trust  to a witness in the case.

Members of the 130th Battalion of the Croatian Army (CA) killed 18 Serb civilians in the village of Paulin Dvor, in the vicinity of Osijek, on December 11, 2010. The names of these civilians are: Milan Labus, Spasoje Milović, Bojo Grubišić, Božidar Sudžuković, Bosiljka Katić, Boško Jelić, Milan Katić, Dmitar Katić, Draginja Katić, Vukašin Medić, Darinka Vujnović, Anđa Jelić, Milica Milović, Petar Katić, Jovan Gavrić, Milena Rodić, Milka Lapčević, and Mariju Sudžuković.

Judgment for War Crimes in Zvornik Municipality Failed to Bring Justice for Victims or the Accused

After five years of trial, the Belgrade Higher Court War Crimes Department trial chamber, presided over by Judge Tatjana Vuković, rendered a judgment on November 22, 2010 which upset human rights defenders and deeply affected and offended families of victims.
