CONTENT: ‘How People Spoke’ represents edited material from the ‘Echoes and Reactions’ column, which was published in the Politika daily newspaper from July 1988 until March 1991, in which Politika’s readers were at the same time authors of articles in which they presented their opinions and reactions to the news published in Politika’s columns relating to internal, foreign, cultural and sports affairs.
The ‘Echoes and Reactions’ column is of essential significance for an understanding of the manner in which the public in Serbia and those parts of Yugoslavia inhabited by Serb populations was systematically prepared for the directed future deconstruction of the country and the wars in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and, finally, Kosovo. Ten years after the sudden end which was as sudden as the beginnings (July 1988 – March 1991), the column remains in the memory of contemporaries as a symbol of the political instrumentalization of the media for the purpose of an orchestrated manipulation of the public, a testimony to the professional downfall of the editors of Politika, a very influential daily newspaper; and also as an indelible record of the dishonourable role of intellectuals in the development and rationalization of ethnic stereotypes, incitement to national hatred and revision of history. This was a preparation for much more serious political and military undertakings that followed.

CONTENT: The Fund contains documents and transcripts from trials of members the Yugoslav Army Peć Military Territorial Detachment 177th Platoon, namely, the trials of Toplica Miladinović, Srećko Popović, Slaviša Kastratović, Boban Bogićević, Zvonimir Cvetković, Radoslav Brnović, Vidoje Korićanin, Veljko Korićanin, and Abdulah Sokić, because they committed the war crimes of murder, persecution and looting of the Albanian civilian population in the villages of Ćuška, Zahać and Plavljan.

CONTENT: Sreten Popović and Miloš Stojanović, members of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, were charged with the fact that in July 1999 in Petrovo Selo, Serbia, they deprived members of the Atlantic Brigade in the KLA armed services volunteer unit in Kosovo, Ali, Agron and Mehmet Bytiqi, of the right to regular and fair trial, and then killed them by execution.
The fund contains court documents (records of the examination of the defendants and witnesses, official notes, court experts’ reports) and transcripts from trials.

CONTENT: Documents containing transcripts from the trials of Ljuban Devetak, Milan Devčić, Milan Radojčić and Željko Krnjajić, members of Territorial Defence and the de facto civilian and military government established in the Municipalities of Lovas and Tovarnik, as well as transcripts from the trials of Jovan Dimitrijević, Saša Stojanović, Dragan Bačić, Zoran Kosijer and Aleksandar Nikolaidis, members of the Dusan the Mighty volunteer armed group, and of members of Territorial Defence units from Valjevo, Miodrag Dimitrijević, Darko Perić, Radovan Vlajković and Radislav Josipović, who launched an attack against the civilian population of Croatian nationality in Lovas in 1992.

CONTENT: The documents are split into two parts, according to sources. One part of the documents is composed of lists of missing persons and exhumation reports made during the work of international organizations relating to the search for the missing (ICMP, ICRC, ICTY). The second part encompasses witness statements, reports on the transfer of prisoners of war, records on the transfer of persons, official notes made during the implementation of the decision by the Republic of Srpska Government and the Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of the Interior to conduct an investigation into the events in Srebrenica in 1995.
