FHP-SN-015 FUND: Documents pertinent to the position of minorities and to human rights violations on the territory of Sandžak

CONTENT: The fund contains various documents pertinent to the position of minorities and to human rights violations on the territory of Sandžak: citizens’ statements about banishments, killings, kidnaps; lists of displaced persons, lists of looted houses; press releases, basic information about trials in Sandžak (trials of Muslims for politically motivated crimes); requests for humanitarian aid; requests for return and compensation of damages; list of Bosniak people who suffered torture, reports from sessions of the Sjenica Municipal Assembly about human rights violations and police repression in the period 1992 – 2002.

ORGANIZATION SYSTEM:  Thematically organized.

The fund is not expected to expand.

FHP-SH-025 FUND: Court documents, from trials of Croat citizens for war crimes

PERIOD: 1999 – 2008.

PRIMARY SOURCES: County Court in Varaždin, County Court in Bjelovar, County Court in Zagreb, County Court in Vukovar (Croatia).

VOLUME AND MEDIUM:  9 archival boxes

CONTENT:  The Fund contains documents from trials of Croat citizens for war crimes committed on the territory of the former Yugoslavia monitored by the researchers and attorneys of the HLC. The trials were conducted on the territory of Croatia. The Fund covers the period from 1999 to the present. The Fund contains court documents (indictments, verdicts, records from the main trials, witness examination records, records from examinations of the accused, trial reports, and memoranda), newspaper articles, and accompanying documents.

ORGANIZATION SYSTEM:  boxes are organized geographically in accordance with the location of the court (alphabetically), and each case is organized chronologically (by date).

Box no. 1
•    Trials of Croat citizens for war crimes committed on the territory of the former Yugoslavia currently pending before the County Courts in Zagreb and Vukovar. Box no. 1 consists of: the “Cerna” Case, the accused being Tomislav Madi, Mario Jurić, Zoran Poštić, Davor Lazić, and Mija Starčević; the “Selotejp” (Scotch tape) and “Garage” Cases, the accused being Branimir Glavaš.

Box no.2
•    Trials of Croats for war crimes committed on the territory of the former Yugoslavia currently pending before the County Court in Zagreb.Box no. 2 consists of: the  “Medačkidžep” Case, the accused being Rahim Ademi and Mirko Norac.

Box no. 3
•    Trials of Croats for war crimes committed on the territory of the former Yugoslavia before the County Court in Zagreb, the County Court in Bjelovar and the County Court in Varaždin. Box no. 3 consists of: the “Bjelovar Group” case, the accused being Luka Markešić et al. and the Case of Dinko Sakic

Analiza suđenja Bobanu Šimšiću pred Sudom BiH

Pred Sudom BiH u Sarajevu 14.08.2007. godine završeno je suđenje Bobanu Šimšiću, bivšem pripadniku MUP-a Republike Srpske, optuženom za krivično delo zločin protiv čovečnosti. Sud je utvrdio krivičnu odgovornost optuženog i osudio ga je na 14 godina zatvora. Ovo je ponovljeno suđenje nakon ukidanja prvostepene presude od strane veća Apelacionog odjeljenja Odjela I za ratne zločine. Suđenje je počelo 14.09.2005. godine a završeno je donošenjem pravosnažne presude 14.08.2007. godine. Optužnicu je podigao Ibro Bulić, tužilac Tužilaštva BiH u Sarajevu. Optuženog je branio Veljko Čivša, advokat iz Sokoca.

Application of Anti-discrimination Law and Law on the Use of Languages in Kosovo Public Companies

During the period: 1 October – 15 December 2007, the Humanitarian Law Center-Kosovo (HLC-Kosovo) conducted research on the application of Anti-discrimination Law and the Law on the Use of Languages in Kosovo public companies. The research included the following companies: Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK)1, Post and Telecommunications of Kosovo (PTK)2, Kosovo Railways, Kosovotrans, Termokos, Town Central Heating Gjakovë/Đakovica, Priština/Prishtinë Airport, regional public companies for water supply and sewage, public utility companies, as well as companies for maintenance of parks, cemeteries and open market places. The research was conducted in all five regions of Kosovo (Prishtinë/Priština, Prizren/Prizren, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Peja/Peć i Mitrovicë/Mitrovica) in main offices and regional centres.

Origin of Video Footage of Execution of Six Bosniaks from Srebrenica

In view of the news published on the B92 web page on 12 December 2007, which stated that Jovan Mirilo “provided the Humanitarian Law Center non-governmental organization with the video tape” showing the execution of six Bosniaks from Srebrenica committed in July 1995, the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) reiterates that it obtained the tape from Dušan Kosanović, a member of the Scorpions unit, in November 2004. Dušan Kosanović testified about this before the Belgrade District Court War Crimes Chamber on 11 April 2006.

Between 12 and 15 December 2007, Francisco Soberon was a guest of HLC in Belgrade and participated in the Seminar: Reparations – legal and moral obligations of the state, which HLC organized on 14 December in cooperation with the International Center for Transitional Justice with the financial support of the Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights.
