On November 18, 1991, members of the JNA, along with the Territorial Defense of Benkovac, entered the village of Škabrnja in the Zadar municipality. Upon entering, they destroyed the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and then killed 41 Croatian civilians in various parts of the village. The following day, seven more civilians were killed in the nearby village of Nadin.
