On February 5, 1994, a mortar shell fired from the positions of the Army of Republika Srpska exploded in the crowded Markale marketplace in Sarajevo. At least 67 people were killed, and 140 were wounded. It was one of the deadliest crimes committed during the siege of Sarajevo.
