Agron, Mehmet, and Ilija Bitići, U.S. citizens who fought on the side of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) as part of the ‘Atlantic Brigade,’ were arrested after the NATO intervention ended in 1999. The court in Prokuplje sentenced them to 15 days in prison. Although they were granted early release three days before completion of the sentence, they were taken to the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Special Anti-Terrorist Unit base in Petrovo Selo, under the command of Goran Petrović – Guri. Their bodies, with hands tied and gunshot wounds to the back of their heads, were found in July 2001 in a mass grave in Petrovo Selo, together with other Kosovo Albanian bodies.
