Discussion held on “Past crimes – possibilities of using Transitional Justice mechanisms in addressing the Kurdish issue in Turkey”

On the occasion of the visit by the Istanbul-based Hafiza Merkezi Centre to the Humanitarian Law Centre (HLC), a discussion on the subject Past crimes – possibilities of using transitional justice mechanisms in addressing the Kurdish issue, was held on 28 March 2013 in the HLC library. In their opening remarks, the members of the Hafiza Merkezi Centre  (Centre for Truth, Justice and Memory), an organisation aiming to uncover the truth about human rights violations in Turkey, preserve the nation’s collective memory and support the survivors and their families in the pursuit of justice, introduced themselves and their organisation to the discussion participants.

Diplomas Awarded to First Generation of the Regional Transitional Justice School Students

The final seminar of the Regional Transitional Justice School organized by the Humanitarian Law Center, the Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo, and the Lawyer Association from Sarajevo was held in the period March 23rd-24th, 2013.

Deadly Toll of Yugoslav Brigade’s Kosovo Attacks Revealed

A Yugoslav Army brigade’s military assaults on eight Kosovo villages that killed 885 people in 1999 have now been fully documented, but Serbia may never prosecute its commander.

HLC presents “The 549th Motorised Brigade of the Yugoslav Army” Dossier

On Wednesday, 20 March 2013, the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) presented the File on the 549th Motorised Brigade of the Yugoslav Army – a unit which was under the command of  Božidar Delić during the Kosovo conflicts.

Dossier 549th Motorized Brigade of Yugoslav Army

The Dossier describes operations of this Yugoslav Army unit during the war in Kosovo as well as the crimes committed in its area of responsibility in which more than 2,000 Albanian civilians were killed. There has not been a single trial of persons responsible for these crimes before courts in Serbia.

Students visiting HLC

A group of students and professors from France, Germany, Croatia, and Serbia visited the Humanitarian Law Center on Thursday, March 14th, 2013 as part of the study visit organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights from Serbia and the Local Democracy Agency from Croatia.
