Funeral of a Convicted War Criminal in the Alley of Greats – Denial of Facts and Mockery of Victims

The funeral of Nebojša Pavković, convicted for crimes against Albanian civilians in Kosovo in 1999, held in the Alley of Distinguished Citizens in Belgrade, represents an open denial of judicially established facts and a mockery of the victims. By granting state honors to a convicted war criminal, accompanied by a false narrative of “honor, courage, and service to the homeland,” the authorities increase pressure on Serbia’s „captive society“, especially on young people, to defend the so-called “heroes who defended the Serbian people” and who are allegedly unjustly convicted.

The Humanitarian Law Center points out that Serbia’s „captive society“ has raised its voice and that ethnonationalist parties and groups no longer have the strength to falsify history and judicial facts.
