On February 15 and 16, 1993, members of the Bosnian Serb army took 11 members of the Bungur family from Bukovica hostage to gain information about Montenegrin Muslims’ involvement in the February 14 offensive on Čajniče and to exchange them for Serbian prisoners. At least six civilians were killed in Bukovica during the war.
