Commemoration of the crime at Korićanske stijene 17 years on

August 21st 2009 – At Korićanske stijene near Vlašiću, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, victims’ families and former camp detainees commemorated the 200 non-Serb civilians from Prijedor killed, 17 years after the massacre.  On August 21st 1992, they were taken from the camp at Trnopolje and killed at Korićanske stijene. The exhumation of their mortal remains from the chasm into which they were thrown commenced this year.

Kandić, Teršelič and Tokača, Schwarzkopf Europe Prize Winners

Nataša Kandić, the Executive Director of the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) was awarded the annual Schwarzkopf Europe Prize this year, along with Vesna Teršelič, the Leader of Documenta from Zagreb, and Mirsad Tokača, the Director of the Research and Documentation Centre from Sarajevo.

Gathering on war crimes trials at Đulići

On July 8th 2009 the Association of families of prisoners and missing persons from Zvornik Municipality organised a gathering in the village of Đulići on war crime trials and investigations into war crimes committed against the civilians of Đulići and other Bosniak villages of the Municipality of Zvornik in 1992.

HLC hosts students from Serbia, the Netherlands and Kosovo

Fifteen students from the Netherlands, Kosovo and Serbia, participants in the “Our future – European Integrations” project, visited the office of the Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) and talked with Sandra Orlović, HLC deputy executive director, and Jelena Simić, regional coordinator of the initiative for RECOM project.

Registers of killed and missing persons presented in Đakovica and Velika Kruša

Over 140 people attended the presentations of the interim record of killed and missing in the territory of Kosovo municipalities of Đakovica and Orahovac. The two presentations, organized by HLC-Kosovo, took place at the Pastrik Hotel in Đakovica and the Cultural Center in Velika Kruša on July 4th and 5th respectively.

Seminar on Transitional Justice Held in Novi Pazar

The Humanitarian Law Center (HLC) and the Sandžak Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms organized a seminar titled Transitional Justice – Basic Mechanisms, Challenges and Problems on June 18th in Novi Pazar. Approximately 40 participants, representatives of non-governmental organizations, associations of victims and ethnically cleansed citizens of the Priboj municipality, student associations, local media and individuals, attended the seminar.

Fifth Forum on Transitional Justice in Budva

The Fifth Regional Forum on Transitional Justice in Post-Yugoslav Countries will begin on May 29th in Bečići, near Budva, and will end on Sunday May 31st. The forum is organized by the Centre for Civic Education and Human Rights Action from Montenegro on behalf of a Coalition of more than 200 non-governmental organizations and individuals from the region, who will use the forum to continue the debate on establishing a Regional Commission to investigate and disclose the facts about war crimes and other serious human rights violations (RECOM) on the territory of the former Yugoslavia.
